During the month of January, annual club dues of $20 per person or family will be collected. Club dues covers entry fees to all rated tournaments in 2012, which is expected to be at least 10 USCF-rated events. That amounts to roughly 40 cents per week and covers the club's annual affiliation with the USCF, which dates back to more than 50 years!

Mark Daley Takes 1st at the Wire

 

Mark Daley of New Ipswich, New Hampshire scored an upset win over previous leader Geoff LePoer of Westford to take 1st place in the John Curdo 80-Year Tribute.  With his performance in this tournament, Mark improved his rating by 116 points to a new all-time high of 1737.  Tying for 2nd were Larry Gladding of Leominster, Geoff LePoer of Westford, Ken Gurge of Leominster, and Keith Kessman of Fitchburg.

This year's Reggie Boone Memorial started out as a standard 5-round tournament, but with 3 weeks lost to snowstorms, it ended up getting shortened to 4 weeks.  Another round might have produced a clear winner, but due to Mother Nature's intervention, we'll never know.  In any event, congratulations to Mike Manisy of Otter River, Robert King of Worcester, and George Mirijanian of Fitchburg who all tied for 1st-3rd.

Three upsets marked the start of the first tournament of 2011. Seven-year-old Carissa Yip of Chelmsford  gained a big win by defeating Paul Lynch of Northboro - a rating difference of 691 points! Trevor Bierig of Clinton upended Dave Couture of Westminster - a difference of 461 points. And Seetharaman Ganesan of South Grafton surprised Paul Godin of Bedford - a difference of 412 points.
