The 2005 Wachusett Chess Club Championship

Bruce Felton and George Mirijanian, both of Fitchburg, shared top honors in the 2005 Wachusett CC Championship, held May 4-June 15 at First Church Unitarian Universalist in Leominster. The co-champions tallied 5-1 in a round-robin field that initially consisted of eight players. Larry Gladding of Leominster, club co-champion in 1998 and 1992, withdrew from the championship after winning his first-round game. Felton's only loss was to Mirijanian, the only undefeated player, who yielded two draws to lower-rated opponents. George O'Rourke of Concord was runner-up with a score of 3-3.

Paul Giovino of Lunenburg won the club's "B" Championship, held May 4-June 15. The Bentley College student tallied 6-1 in a field of 15 players to finish 1 1/2 points ahead of runners-up Brian Biglow of Leominster and Wayne Steadman of Lunenburg. Mike Meehan of Westminster captured fourth place with a score of 4-3."
